I was lucky enough to read to these amazingly well behaved, (thankfully) interested, cute kids at St. Michael’s in Englewood, CA. 95% of the kids in this school can not afford books and when they found out they were going home with 3 brand new books, they were beyond thrilled.

So first I read them a book- a tad nerve racking at first- I don’t know how teachers do it, but then I got the hang of it. And, again, the kids were so polite. We had a bunch of laughs. I read to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.

When these kids got there books, it was as if you set them loose in Toys R Us. They loved the books and you could tell they would be cherishing them for a long time to come. And all because you guys to a little time to bring a new book to the summer tour.

Kepp up the book drives and get the books to the places that need them most. They are out there. Big ups to the girls who put on the Rock the Block party with the Fat Boys! And Big ups to The Fat Boys for bringing it to another level!!! Legends of the game helping out the cause.

Keep it up!!!

I have been off the LGT radar for too long but I wanted to thank everyone for keeping it going. Raising awareness an money! for early reading. “Step 1” will never end and will always be remembered by all of us as such a huge success and strong foundation for this foundation - we can still do more. Folks are doing fundraisers and book drives. A new book is the gift that keeps on giving and can change the path of a young child. Step 1 continues on!!!
Step 2 is on the horizon for sure but let’s keep thinking books books books!
We ate changing the world, step by step :)

I got very vaclempt when I heard that Houston collected over 2700 books. That put us way over 25,000 new books. You guys made this happen. You would not be denied. A girl said to me a day or two before Houston not to worry- that we’d make it to 25K. Wow! You guys were schemeing! I love you all. This summer book drive will always be special to me. You should be so proud of us. And this group of volunteers had the biggest job of any group. That was alot of books to be lugging around in the heat! But we did it!!! Stay tuned for more book drive info- u guys have so much passion and love to go round. Let’s continue this!!!!
So I’ve been hearing that some of you who donated a book at the concert did not get your download of “5 Brothers and a Million Sisters” yet. One reason for some is that I was a bit late getting them out- and now you have already received it. ANother reason is that some names may have slipped through the cracks or were spelled wrong, etc.

Sooo…. please email letsgetthisfoundation@gmail.com and in the subject line put your city / download as in “Memphis/Download”. We will send you the song asap.

Sorry for the mishap and thank you for your patience.

Let’s reconcile this :)

A couple- I won’t meantion any names cuz I think they were supposed to be at work:) did their own book drive outside a Walmart and asked people to go in and buy a book. That’s dedication and I know so many of you have done great stuff like that- that’s what I want to keep happening. The ripple effect that can keep impacting more and more people.
I wish I could have spent more time in Denver but it’s always nice to see it’s beauty. The show was rockin’- I remember the venue from back in the day. This time the crowd was hype! And the oxygen level made me a little tipsy:) Great show and I’m really happy we were able to play Denver this time around. Thank you to these very cool volunteers. Everytime I see and feel your passion, it inspires me to keep working on my end. Rocky Mountain High for sure!!!!

Phx! That’s what I’m sayin’! Thank you to all who brought a book and made sure it didn’t melt on the way. The volunteers weren’t in the rain or the heat, but I heard they made people leave the show to go buy books! They were! It’s always great meeting with you guys and talking about our goals and what we can do to help the world. You know if Memphis didn’t have that secret sexy librarian, you guys would be the champs! (You might have to take your case the Supreme Court and win my vote). You have to know the impact you are making. The children’s programs that get these books at every city are utterly overwhelmed. They are thrilled when we load their cars and vans up with new books. Thank you for really showing how excited you are about this book drive- I’ll never forget it. I look forward to my next cable car ride and driving into the mountains of your beautiful neck of the woods. oxoxox -jm

Seattle/Tacoma (cuz we was on tha bohdah)…. The great...

Seattle/Tacoma (cuz we was on tha bohdah)…. The great people of these twin cities (not really twins but sisters maybe) brought 913 brand new books to the show!!!!!!!! That is no joke. Thank you to all these pretty volunteers :) You worked hard and long and I thank you for your love and commitment! You are the real deal. And even though it was cloudy that day, it did not hide the immense beauty. I’m sorry we could not all make to Denny’s after the show- that Wahlberg keeps quite a schedule :) I hope to see Seattle much sooner than later. oxoxxoxoxo Thank you thank you thank you. -jm

Yes sir! Thank you Kansas! Thank you volunteers! This was an inside show, so no heat or rain, but I know they did whatever they could for this book drive. Gawd luv ya! It was good to be back in Kansas- the great state of Bob Dole! “Joe Mac likes it! America likes it! Bob Dole likes it!”- BD. :)

I don ‘t have a count for the books we collected that night yet, but I’ll get it to you! It was a great show and once again we are humbled by your support and love.

And I thank. And I thank you! Way to go. Technically, if we are talking about pure numbers, ladies and gentleman, we have a new champion… with 1700 books! This is because there was a girl who drove from Florida with a car load of books! She did her own book drive on the side (which I love cuz it gets more people involved- more people, more books!). She brought a thousand books! (I’ll give a special shout out for this great donation soon). The rest of Memphis brought 700, which is very good considering it was one of the smaller venues for the tour. So that brings the total to 1700! And they take the crown from Chi-Town!!! Chi… you raised the bar like you always do and I know if we had a show there tomorrow you would take back the crown, but this is Memphis’ moment. Maybe it was The King- he knew I went to Graceland and he heard me singing Hound Dog and he just had to make Memphis The Book King! Great town, great people, great concert! I love yas!!!!! Thank you to all the volunteers for standing in the heat and making this happen for all these kids!!!! Books are beautiful and so are you. oxxoxoxox -jm

“Meet me in St, Louie, Louie! We can collect lots of books there!”- 1100 new books, y’all!!! Way to go. And the venue for the show was smaller than some, so technically per capita- St. Louis stepped up BIG TIME!

Thank you thank you thank you! I sound like a broken record, but another great show. What a sweet journey we are on. You can smell the nectar, it is that pungent. !!!

These volunteers showed how St. Louis does it. We had a great time in your city- got a couple days off to soak it in. Good times!!! Shout out to the City Museum- that place is spectacular.

I love ya, St. Louis. You not only didn’t let me down. You lifted me up…so high, so high, ya make me wanna fly so high!

There are a lot of “gentley used” and “like new books” out there that could certainly be a deserving part of a home book shelf. However, for a book drive like this, we wanted to keep it simple. The turn around for the books being collected and picked up is less than 24 hours. We want to be sure right away that all these books are ready to go and ready to get into the hands of a child that can call it their own. There is something about being the first pair of little hands to open up a beautiful new book. It is special for that child. I think it reinforces the relationship of that child with the book and the amazing journey they are about to share.

Just thought I’d say a few words about that. I never thought we’d even think of coming close to 20 thousand new books, but now I’m dreaming of 25 thousand :) !!!! Let’s keep it going, guys!
Indi (like every show this week) was bombdiggitiohsious! Being able to pay tribute to Mike in his home state was really special and a great honor. Wow…

And again I think he would really appreciate all the books we collected for kids. I don’t have a solid count but I think its around 750! And that is dyno-mite!!! xoxxoxo
